  • How do I set up SLP?

The first thing to consider when setting up SLP, is what type of SLP service your network is using. There are three basic types - Dynamic SLP (the default), Static SLP, and SLPDA.

If you are using Dynamic SLP, you should not need configure SLP but simply browse for your Tree and Context from the Login screen.

Static SLP is used when a server is on a different IP subnet than the client. To configure this option, go to the SLP tab in the Preferences window. From there enable Static SLP, and enter the IP address of a server with a replica of the Tree you would like to connect to.

SLPDA is used with Directory Agents. This is also configured in the SLP window of the preference window. For this, you need the IP address of the Directory Server(s) and scope information.

Once you have configured for your network SLP, you should be able to browse for Trees and Contexts from the Login window then enter Username and Password and Login.

In certain network configurations SLP does not work. In this case you can manually connect to a Tree by entering the following:

    1. Tree IP address in the Tree field
    2. Context information (sometimes this will be browse able at this point)
    3. Username
    4. Password
