    I had a perfectly good external hard drive, computer and non-corrupt data. I made one simple change to the metadata of a digital RAW photo file in the File Browser of Photoshop CS and everything about the image was instantly erased with the exception of the thumbnail and file name. Photoshop wouldn't open the image any longer and the Nikon software didn't recognize the file.

    I was lucky and had enough sense not to write anything else to the drive on which the files were stored and got Data Rescue II to recover the lost information.

    It took about 14 hours (well worth the wait) and everything was restored.

    I asked for a recommendation from Apple Computer for a good data recovery program and this one was what they told me to get. I'm glad I got it.
