I am a member of the Apple Consultants Network. I got a call from a client that she had, in a moment of over-multi-tasking, somehow done an erase and install of OS 10.5, which wiped all her programs and business files. She had talked to Apple Care which told her she was out of luck and her (unbacked up) files were gone. She called me and i was able to visit her. I brought along Data Rescue II. After confirming that there was no backup and the files were indeed gone, I ran Data Rescue. First time I did a quick scan to see what it would find. It found basic account stuff, but no important files. Then I ran Expert Mode. it ran for about 4 or so hours, but it founds 95% of her stuff. All her data files were recovered, and the only programs that it didn't find were Microsoft Office and the iLife programs. She was able to restore these from their original media. The recovery too about 2-3 hours but without DataRescue II she would have been in serious trouble. Needless to say before I left I started a backup, so now she has a backup of all her important data.
